Joel DeCandio is an American actor working internationally in theatre and film. He is currently in production for Tyler Rubenfeld's surreal feature, Planets—a haunting nocturnal mosaic exploring suburban isolation. He made his film debut starring in Kenya Gillespie's 16 mm tone poem, Give (Special Jury Mention: Kashish Muṁbaī 2024; Best International: NRFF Amsterdam 2024), and his work in theatre includes multiple productions of Cymbeline and A Midsummer Night's Dream, as well as The Tempest, Tennessee Williams' The Rose Tattoo, Twelfth Night at Folger Shakespeare Theatre, Gertrude Stein's Écoutez-moi with Kathleen Turner, and Antony & Cleopatra with the National Theatre of Ghana and artists from the Ankara State Theatre of Türkiye. His film work includes He Won't Belong opposite Cole Doman, All the Rest Is Noise (Phynefilms, Berlin), and Delicious (Official Selection: Austin Film Festival 2024; New York Latino Film Festival 2024).

 

Outside his work as an actor, Joel is an accomplished pianist and vocalist. His vocals are featured in Charlotte Ercoli's Fior di latte (Official Selection: Tribeca Film Festival), and his duo show with Bligh Voth, The Sondheim Sessions, has been recommended by Time Out New York. He has also served as a creative consultant and producer on films like Catalina (Official Selection: Outfest and NewFest) and Transumanza (Terroir Films, Trieste).
